things i've been considering (7/30/24)
Orpheus / Eurydice
i have the sense sometimes of otherness / of knowing things i have no
right to know / a strange déja-vu that bites my tongue and locks my
knees / i take these things these knowings remembrances and
scribble them in the margins of my favorite books
impose them on stories i’ve read ten thousand
times / hide them in the works of all the dead
men and give them over to the waste
land and inferno / to rot or to
burn or to be buried / to
figure me some

and of sorrows
for the faint-hearted
and noble alike \ those which
enumerate and illuminate the trials
of warriors and bards and scholars decreed
by gods and muses and men \ those which make
us forget we are mortal for even the briefest of times
and allow us to see the truths in the lies we tell ourselves
to send us to sleep at night \ those which journey to the depths
of the soul just to forget the face of their Eurydice and make us turn
and face our happiness even though we know the price we pay in seeing it.
