creation is like swimming in the ocean

at high tide.

when i was small

i said i’d be a

vet-er-i-nar-i-an.

it was a big word

one I could feel

in my mouth

and hear meaning in

Intention.

importance.

i wrote stories

about animals

about trees

about life

and one day realized

i enjoyed the stories

and the animals

and the trees

and life

much more than the word

i associated with them

and i said instead

i’d be a

writer.
